The leaf (collection) is changing....Here is what you need to know

In a nut shell, we used to rake all the leaves to the curb and on designated dates (or close to them) the township would come around and pick up the leaves.
Not anymore! There is a new system in place this year. All residents are required to use paper Recyclable Bags. The bags are then picked up on regular trash day starting mid October. These bags are available at Home Depot and other local stores. I also just found out they will be available at the Rec. Center for $1.50 for a 5 bag bundle (first bundle is free).

So why the change? From what I have read it is much less time consuming and more cost effective to handle the leaf pickup this way. From a residents stand point, I don't have to worry about loosing parking spots and having leaves blow all over the front walk and yard. And I may actually win the mulching war with my husband this year! The easiest way to adjust is to just mulch and that way you avoid the whole thing all together. Another alternative is to start a compost pile. But if your yard is like mine you can only have so much compost.

Upper Chi's "Offical" site has some info as well. http://www.upperchichester.org/

How do you feel about this change? Is it a good thing? Post below.

  1. Having been one of the 12% targeted by the EIT, my labor is being ever more taxed. Not too excited...
